Week 51 The Christmas Edition

Image
We had Renny's 90th Birthday Party in a nicely upgraded shed at one of the son's places. I think that the only one missing was Ben...(and Janny's Dad, of course). On Thursday, our last working day of the year, Renny supplied the cakes for our Day Activity Group. Boeke takes his place just about every morning...   The shuffle board has been a big hit... Tjeerd and I (mostly Tjeerd!) managed to get the trampoline away for the winter... We're having a quiet Christmas with Janny's Mum... Hello Fresh, of all things...but it is ideal for just the 3 of us. We still have to cook it, but at least we get to try some new things. I don't think I've used Jerusalem Artichokes before! Janny is trying out the meringue. We have a full week off now - time to enjoy our new TV with the fire on and too much food! Tesla driver busted stealing electricity from a lamppost in Zuid-Holland We are curious about the story behind this act," police said on social media. The police c...

Week 50 The 90th Birthday Edition

Week 50 Not much today - my "quiet time" is non-existent. Getting ready for Rennie's 90th Birthday Party today. One of our prezzies was the chook shed - Tjeerd and I picked up the chooks during the week - and they're laying already! We had a cold snap during the week... (This photo is actually a good sign - the roof stays white, meaning that the insulation is working. With the old roof, there were always warm patches where the the ice had melted in the course of the day). I took this photo to show where the sun is at 1430hrs - in the summer, the sun would move to the right of this picture, but at this time of the year it appears to move backwards from this point - we're coming up to the shortest day, so things can only get better :-) Hardly any work done - I've been enjoying making jigs for one of our projects for next year...but it's cold in my workshop as well! I bought two new sawblades - LONG OVERDUE! What a difference it makes... Ben in Melbourne - ...

Week 49

Week 49 Mark Twain It's much easier to fool people than it is to get them to admit that they were fooled. I was listeneing to a BBC Podcast (The Infinite Monkey Cage) before I ventured out of bed this morning. This particular episode was about Conspiracy Theories - hence the above quote. Another Sunday morning treat is the Al Franken Podcast - this week with Alexander Vindman, discussing the war in the Ukraine. Still battling the cold. We only have the wood heater on in our house - although Janny is getting a bit growly now and then. She's set up to watch the World Cup and do jigsaw puzzles -  and I can do my boat research on the computer - and watch a bit of cricket. I get rugged up with beanie and gloves to take Boeke for a walk - it's always a delight in the forest no matter what the weather is doing. Ice forming on one of the pools across the road... Some relief with energy prices... For November and December we got a rebate of €190,00 for each of our gas meters - one i...
