Week 24 Ye Olde Village Fair
Village Fair 2022
I usually manage to avoid these, but this year I was roped in to the Pub Quiz, the Bingo Day (with the clients) and the Play-Back Show.
Because a sister and a niece both had Covid - for the 2nd time! - I was enlisted as a "Stand-In Minion", along with another brother-in-law.
Alas, we didn't win - nor any consolation prize. The Rozema Family has won it several times before, so everyone else has lifted their game...
(The Covid numbers are on the rise in the Netherlands, so events like these are going to be a good test - perhaps I shouldn't have gone, but it is hard not to get swept up in it all). As usual, we shall see...
Update
We both went for a PCR test this morning because Janny was feeling crook - and she tested POSITIVE and I was negative (at the time of the test). So, a tough week coming up...we'll probably have to close from Tuesday on. Sister Ankie is holding the fort on Monday. Another sister Bertha, did the shopping for us.
Boating matters...
Ron and Annette are the new caretakers of Houtrib (previously entrusted to Andrew and Terry) - so they are busy getting her shipshape and painted for new adventures in 2022...
She's been out of the water for the last 2 Covid years - luckily they were able to use the Club's high pressure hose to get a lot of the gunk off.
Ron and Annette were going to sleep in a tent! next to the workshed - but they are happily living aboard Jacoba instead. I was also able to help them get around to sort out some paint and other necessities - all a bit too much to do on a bike!
Most importantly, they brought the good weather with them - I was still lighting the fire only two weeks ago!.
The Pumpkin Report...
It looks like another bust this year - too long to get warm! The glasshouse stuff is going really well, but outside, it's only the onions, rhubarb and strawberries that are thriving. We're having a bumper crop of strawberries...
(It makes me wonder how I ever had success with the pumpkins - the first couple of years were outstanding - I suppose I just thought it was always going to be that easy....). Janny tells me that the local "proper" gardeners are also having trouble this year.
It was quiet on Wednesday, so Janny took a couple of clients down to look at the Turf Route canal near us...
Pieter was allowed to open the gates at one of the locks...
Janny's Dad and I did ALL the plastering!
The photo of you at the fair in blue overalls and yellow top looking straight at the camera is the spitting image of Grandpa!
