End of year and best wishes to all for 2024!  Fireworks One highlight (of many) Audio books The Cathars Doing nothing Boat musings for 2023 Ben Opinion Panel On New Year's Eve, we went to the house of one of Janny's sisters - 3rd night out in a row - luckily, I have to get home early (midnight!) to let Boeke out. Buying fireworks for personal use is a "thing" here - I am always amazed at how much money some people spend...It is fairly regulated and only permitted on New Year's Eve. Some Local Governments are trying to change the culture and have banned them altogether and put on a professional display instead, A nephew of ours organised a professional show for Wijnjewoude just to prove that it can be done - without the individual expense and the risk of injury... ...speaking of which, they also do Carbide shooting... The carbide is wetted a bit and the churn closed off with a synthetic ball. A gas is produced in the churn. Then a little flame is held at a tiny hol

Week 51 The Christmas Edition

We had Renny's 90th Birthday Party in a nicely upgraded shed at one of the son's places. I think that the only one missing was Ben...(and Janny's Dad, of course). On Thursday, our last working day of the year, Renny supplied the cakes for our Day Activity Group. Boeke takes his place just about every morning...   The shuffle board has been a big hit... Tjeerd and I (mostly Tjeerd!) managed to get the trampoline away for the winter... We're having a quiet Christmas with Janny's Mum... Hello Fresh, of all things...but it is ideal for just the 3 of us. We still have to cook it, but at least we get to try some new things. I don't think I've used Jerusalem Artichokes before! Janny is trying out the meringue. We have a full week off now - time to enjoy our new TV with the fire on and too much food! Tesla driver busted stealing electricity from a lamppost in Zuid-Holland We are curious about the story behind this act," police said on social media. The police c

Week 50 Not much today - my "quiet time" is non-existent. Getting ready for Rennie's 90th Birthday Party today. One of our prezzies was the chook shed - Tjeerd and I picked up the chooks during the week - and they're laying already! We had a cold snap during the week... (This photo is actually a good sign - the roof stays white, meaning that the insulation is working. With the old roof, there were always warm patches where the the ice had melted in the course of the day). I took this photo to show where the sun is at 1430hrs - in the summer, the sun would move to the right of this picture, but at this time of the year it appears to move backwards from this point - we're coming up to the shortest day, so things can only get better :-) Hardly any work done - I've been enjoying making jigs for one of our projects for next year...but it's cold in my workshop as well! I bought two new sawblades - LONG OVERDUE! What a difference it makes... Ben in Melbourne -
